Workshop Overview:
Kristy and Alastair will offer practical strategies that have been implemented at the Charles Dickens school that have helped to significantly increase rates of attainment and improved student learning. The session will focus on:
Starting and planning the Thinking School journey,
Developing consistency in the use of thinking strategies
Practical solutions to ensure the fidelity of implementation
Fostering a culture of metacognitive, self-regulating learners
Biography:
Kristy Harrison has been in education for 23 years, which has included teaching in the UK, Japan and Canada. She is currently Deputy Head teacher for implementation and teaches Geography at The Charles Dickens School. The Charles Dickens School is a non-selective school located in Broadstairs, Kent. Both Kristy and Alastair joined The Charles Dickens School in 2017, when the school was going through significant changes. Since this time, the school has been on an improvement journey, that has included a drive on whole school culture, including student learning and supporting teachers to use pedagogical strategies and research that supports this. This has resulted in The Charles Dickens School achieving their best performance in both attainment and progress in 2023. The school also achieved national recognition for the improvement in P8 performance between 2019 and 2023.
